Naomi and I have been working on the next book in our Five-Minute Colouring Book Series, and this one is all about cooking and food.

Choosing the theme turned out to be surprisingly easy. When we created Home Sweet Home back in 2025, we ended up with more illustrations than we needed. As we looked through the unused pieces, we realised quite a few would fit perfectly into our planned food-themed book — including the Apron Still Life you can see below.

So rather than starting from scratch, we already had the beginnings of something special. Since then, we’ve been adding new illustrations whenever time allows, gradually building the collection piece by piece.

The book is now almost complete – we have enough for a full book right now – but we’re still adding a few final pages. We always like to round out the range and include plenty of variety.

One of the things we enjoy most is including unexpected things to colour throughout our colouring books. You might spot a deer on a vintage sugar tin, a tiny bird perched on a flowerpot, or a tractor tucked into a farm scene. We want every book to offer small moments of discovery.

That’s also one of the things that makes our books a little different.

Many colouring books focus on a single style, which means that if you enjoy variety, you often need to buy several books to get it. Our books are themed by subject, not by art style. Within a single book, you’ll find a wide variety of artistic styles — from whimsical illustrations and folk-art-inspired designs to hand-sketched drawings, decorative patterns, clean-lined artwork, and pages that feel reminiscent of vintage children’s books.

If you enjoy variety but don’t want a shelf full of colouring books, this is the book for you.

We thought we’d give you a sneak peek at some of the illustrations currently going into the book. Here they are in draft form.

Once the artwork is finalised, Naomi works her magic. She transforms the pages into our signature scrapbook style, adding torn paper edges, sticky tape details, quotes, facts, writing prompts, and drawing prompts that I’ve rustled up for her, and all the little touches that give our books their relaxed, no-pressure feel.

It’s one of our favourite parts of the process because that’s when the individual illustrations finally begin to feel like a complete book.

A Little Gift for You

And because we couldn’t resist sharing something while we work on the final pages, we have a small gift for you too.

Our Orange Tree design was one of our collaborative pieces. Naomi created the background elements and the half-barrel, while I drew the tree and the little bird.

Recently, I decided to revisit the artwork, redraw it onto pastel paper and colour it with oil pastels. Originally it was simply going to hang on my wall, but we both liked the finished piece so much that we wanted to share it with you as well.

The result feels like a little piece of both of us — which makes it a particularly fitting gift.

A tip: The original piece is just over A5 size. For printing at its best, keep it around that size. But it could probably handle A4 size.
